Due to the COVID-19 crisis, many classrooms are shifting to distance learning to engage students as well as ensure they feel connected with their school community. 

Many students rely on their connections with teachers and the shock of having this taken away from daily life is significant. Using Kiddom's Builder tool, build a comprehensive set of virtual, sequential lessons to connect with students and enable them to learn asynchronously. 

First, Set Simple Distance Learning Goals

Below are some example distance learning goals to start to get students connected and engaged.

Goal #1: Connect with my students to ensure they feel some kind of normalcy.

Goal #2: Build and share a set of learning modules my students can work through at their own pace. 

Achieve Your Distance Learning Goals Using Kiddom

Goal #1: Embedded video recordings can be used drive a mini-lesson and maintain some form of a teacher-student connection. This can be done asynchronously using tools like Loom and Vidyard, which allow you to record and upload all in one step, or you can record with another method and upload the video from your computer to YouTube or another video hosting site. 

You can then embed the video directly into your Kiddom lessons and assign over to your students to view.


Another way to do this synchronously, which would be to use Zoom (or Google Hangout). Add the video URL in one of the modules and give explicit directions on how to join in the Classroom tab.

You can also communicate 1:1 with a student. Click on an individual student in the People section to start chatting. If a student sends you a message, they will show up as bold in the the People section of your class.

Goal 2: Use Builder to build out a set of modules/content for students to complete at their pace. 

Using your teacher login, go to your "curriculum" tab first and add in units and then your lessons to make the transition between lessons as smooth as possible.

Next, add activities or assessments to assist students as the meet the challenges of more difficult concepts.

Add in questions and then align to skills to meet the lesson's measurable objectives. As the class progresses, you can move on to more advance tasks as they have already been planned. 

If a student does not progress at the same rate, you can set up a differentiated lesson plan to accommodate learners since your lessons will be easily accessible in Kiddom this school year and beyond.
