Why are New Students Not Automatically Added to Existing Assignments?

To ensure a smooth transition for students entering your class midway through the year, it's important to note that their Assignment tab may not include activities assigned prior to their joining your class. When new students are added to a class with preexisting assignments, they will not automatically have access to those assignments. If you wish for the student to complete older assignments, we recommend directly sharing these assignments with them.

To add an individual student to an already assigned activity, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the assignment on your Planner tab.
  2. Click the 3-dot button in the assignment box.
  3. Click "Edit Info".
  4. In the "Assign to" section, click on the pencil icon.
  5. Select the student you want to add to the assignment and click "Done".
  6. Finally, click "Save" on the assignment settings box.

Now, the student has been successfully added to the assignment and will be able to access it from their Assignments tab. Please note that you will need to follow these steps for each assignment that you want to add them to.

An animation demonstrating how to edit an assigned activity to change which students it is assigned to. The user clicks on the three dot menu next to the assignment to bring up the assignment settings. Then they click the pencil icon in the Assign To row. This brings up a list of the students the activity is assigned to. Most have blue checkmarks next to them, but one does not. The user clicks the unchecked box to add that student, then clicks Done, and finally Save.

This method can also be used to change which students or groups of students an assignment is assigned to. For more information on editing an assignment after it has been assigned, click here!
