How do I set up grading?
To access your grading methods, navigate to one of your class tiles and click on the Settings (gear icon) in your left toolbar, then click on the Grading tab at the top of the page. On this page, you can change the class's reporting method, the class's grading method, and a list of assignment types that are available for the class.
Note: You will need to set this up for each class independently. Class settings do not automatically apply to all classes.
What is a Reporting Method?
The Reporting Method shows how your grades will be displayed within your data. By default, Kiddom uses the Marzano Grading Scale, but you can change this to display as a percentage, grade level, or grade points.
What is a Grading Method?
The Grading Method determines how the grades on assignments are calculated. Kiddom provides three grading methods:
- Unweighted: This is the default grading method in Kiddom. An unweighted grading scale means that all points are the same for all assignment types. Using this method, the value of assignments is determined by the total points available on the assignment (assignments with more points available will have a larger impact on a student's grade than assignments with fewer points available).
- Max Value Law: This method assigns the grade based on a student's highest performance when attempting to demonstrate mastery. This is a valuable method if you want to show overall performance on a specific skill or standard.
- Weighted: This method allows the teacher to add value to specific types of assignments to give them more weight in the grade. For example, this method is useful if you want to ensure that assessments are worth exactly 40% of a student's grade, while homework assignments are only worth 10%. When selecting this method, you will need to set the percentage value for each assignment type you wish to use, ensuring that the total adds to 100%.
What are Assignment Types?
Assignment types are different categories that assignments might fall into, such as homework, assessments, or projects.
- Assignment types with a lock symbol are enabled for your class and are already in use by an existing assignment. It's "locked" because you cannot disable assignment types that are currently in use in your class timeline.
- Assignment types in blue are ones that you've enabled for the class but have not yet used. Once you have assigned a task with this type, the icon will become "locked".
- Assignment types in gray have not yet been enabled for the class. To enable these assignment types, click the assignment type you'd like to enable. A pop-up will appear asking whether you wish to enable that assignment type.
